Frost & Sullivan Acknowledges the Competitive Advantage of CentraSep’s Exceptional Solid/Liquid Separation Solution
Palo Alto, Calif. August 30, 2006 Frost & Sullivan selected CentraSep Technologies as the recipient of the 2006 Product Differentiation Innovation Award in the North American industrial solid/liquid separation equipment market in recognition of the company’s unique, simple, and reliable solid/liquid separation solution.

CentraSep’s vast experience in servicing industrial centrifuges has helped it identify problem areas in the traditional centrifuge design that had often triggered machine breakdowns and malfunctions.

The company has addressed these issues by inventing a new centrifuge design, which reduces the overall complexity of the operating mechanism, thus minimizing the likelihood of breakdowns and subsequent downtime.

One of the key factors for the success of this exceptional centrifuge product is the company’s customer-focused approach when addressing product and technology innovation. CentraSep’s product improvement initiatives are based on collaborations with customers and incorporation of clients’ inputs.

Although centrifuges are traditionally considered high maintenance, CentraSep has designed a solution that eliminates typical operational challenges associated with most automatic vertical self-discharging centrifuges, says Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Renee Chu. For example, unlike other centrifuges that require at least two motors to function, the CentraSep centrifuge relies on a single motor and belt to drive the entire centrifugation process.

Moreover, the product’s torque is generated in a fashion that does not require a multitude of chains, gears, and clutches as with other machines. Parts that require periodical replacement or optimization, such as rotors, are designed in a way that facilitates rapid replacement. CentraSep’s rotor assembly can be completely replaced in less than 10 minutes, and can be done on the customer’s production floor. Traditional centrifuge designs can require 8 hours or more to replace rotors.

These advantages considerably reduce the stress imposed on the system, thus minimizing the likelihood of system breakdowns and downtime.

Other value-added features of CentraSep include 316 stainless steel on all wetted parts to prevent corrosion and erosion of essential components, as well as optimized bearing sizes in order to prevent traditional bearing failures at demanding process speeds.

CentraSep Technologies’ leadership in production differentiation and innovation is further proven by the constant discovery of new markets and new applications in a mature market, notes Chu. The company routinely receives customer inquiries on the applicability of CentraSep for various novel processes, which is a rarity in a market rapidly reaching maturity.

Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to a company that has demonstrated the ability to develop and/or advance products with more innovative capabilities than competing vendors and products. The Award recognizes the company’s successful adoption of new or existing technology that has become a part of its well-designed product family.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
